The ASEAN Airport Environmental Management System (Airport EMS) enhances environmental performance at ASEAN airports through a simple, flexible, and cost-effective framework based on the Plan-Do-Check-Act model. Initiated by Thailand at the 41st ASEAN Air Transport Working Group (ATWG), it evolved through expert collaboration and was endorsed in 2022 by ASEAN transport officials and ministers. Implementation began in 2023, led by Thailand’s Airport EMS Taskforce, with support from Japan’s MLIT.
The ASEAN Guideline on Airport Environmental Management System (AIRPORT EMS) provides a framework to assist airport operators in effectively managing their environmental impact. This management tool helps airports establish internal systems for environmental management. It helps identifying and managing environmental concerns, ensuring compliance with relevant environmental regulations, and implementing robust monitoring processes, etc. The AIRPORT EMS guideline was developed by a dedicated team of ASEAN experts representing aviation authorities, airport operators, and national standards authorities from ASEAN member states.
